I hear many rumors about a haunted church in the area but i cant find any proof. Has anyone been to or seen this church anywhere in the canyon?

I have hiked all through Blackstar Canyon during both day and night and have never found this church there are rumors of. I would assume people are mistaking one of the homes or abandoned huts as a church. One of the few homes early on in the canyon has a large wooden black looking cross up on the hill above it.

If anyone knows otherwise please post the location and I will go down, investigate it, photograph it, and add it to the site.

The only church I've seen there is Calvary Chapel when you go up Silverado Canyon rd. It's pretty creepy at night and there was a broken window at the top of the church which nobody ever thought to replace so that made it look even creepier. I don't think it's haunted but the place is pretty creepy looking.

I went over there a few nights ago and ran into people I've met there at past nights. One girl told me that there was an abandoned church over in the distance. We walked through the dry creek (one that is by the bushes near the main gate) and we were told we had to walk a mile or more east to come upon the church. But like Dev described... it might have been just a shack or something but the girl described it as a Catholic church?!

By the way...Next time you pass the Canyon Calvary Chapel church... look under the pine tree near the entrance of the driveway and you will see a California Historical Marker. Here is info on it:

NO. 228 CARBONDALE - This is the site of the 1878 coal discovery. The mine, called the Santa Clara, was operated by the Southern Pacific. The village of Carbondale was built on the flat. When the mine was closed down, Carbondale's buildings were moved away and today not one remains.
Location: Silverado Community Church entrance, Silverado Canyon Rd, 1.1 mi W of Silverado post office, Silverado

Also folks.. there is a marker for those interested in the history of Silverado Canyon:

NO. 202 SILVERADO - Located in Caņada de la Madera (Timber Canyon) was a mining boomtown founded in 1878 when silver was discovered nearby. During the colorful life of its boom, 1878-1881, miners flocking to the area established a thriving community, served daily by stage coach from Los Angeles and Santa Ana.
Location: Next to Silverado Fire Station #2, end of Silverado Canyon Rd, 3.4 mi E of Silverado post office, Silverado

Funny thing as well... there is one located right inside Black Star Canyon! Anyone care to go up there and take a picture of it?

NO. 217 BLACK STAR CANYON INDIAN VILLAGE SITE - The Indians who lived on the village located here had stolen some horses, and the whites followed them back to their camp. After a skirmish, the whites left with the horses that the Indians had not killed. In 1878 the Black Star Coal Mining Company had a mine at the mouth of the canyon.
Location: Black Star Canyon on Black Star Canyon Rd, 6.0 mi N of Silverado Canyon Rd, 9 mi N of Silverado

There is a huge thing on the trail towards the beginning
and i really believed it was an opening to a mine
However, it is all boarded off and there is a no trespassing sign.

Has there been any recent news about a Haunted Church? I just heard the rumor from several people myself and am curious to find out more about it.

reply to bryan. There is also outdoor cameras overlooking it. They look like boxes. They are extremely expensive and work at night

As far as I know the rumors of a "haunted church" are untrue, though I suppose the church on Silverado Canyon Road COULD have residual energy of some kind, if they hold funerals there ever, but it's certainly not haunted. Creepy maybe sometime, but I seriously doubt haunted. There's plenty of places I've experienced paranormal activity first hand in Trabuco, Silverado, Black Star, Holy Jim and Santiago Canyons, but never have seen or heard of anything in any of the more modern buildings or whatnot that sounds like a haunting or anything.

I wholeheartedly agree. I get really sick of these urban legends that have sprung up recently about Blackstar, Silverado and Trabuco.

Though I will admit to having seen a black ghost dog in Silverado and have at least 2-3 other witnesses. Though since I probably can't get them on here, it's really not worth mentioning...
